In 2001 major changes were implemented by the Bradford Education Authority (now Education Bradford). The three tier system of First, Middle and Upper schools ceased and the number of schools in the Authority was cut by 70.

Burley's oldest school building, on Aireville Terrace, is now closed and the building incorporated in a new housing development on the site. The roads there are named after former headteachers in the school.
