Achievements
A list of some achievements of the Community Trust and Community Council (in rough date order) - mainly funded from donations, bequests and grants and implemented by volunteers with minimal professional assistance:
- Restoration of the Fountain area at the junction of Station Road and Main Street
- Saving, restoring and making The Round House available for public use
- Restoring and improving The Round House again – after a break–in and very damaging fire
- Establishment of the Village Green, and all that is now to be seen there from seats to flowerbeds
- Annual Christmas Lights and Trees: supplying, testing, erecting and dismantling
- Establishment of the Pudding Tree Garden (between The Malt Shovel and the Parish Church)
- Extension of the Village Green to take in the area up to Norwood Avenue, with more seats and landscaping
- Erection of the stone footbridge over the beck opposite the Malt Shovel as part of the access arrangements to the Village Green
- Landscaping and planting of the old Highways Dept "staithe" on Bradford Rd
- Improvements to the appearance of West Terrace car park
- Improvements to the garden area in front of Jake Wright's showroom
- Erection of simple wooden benches at various points on the "Hoppa" bus route round the village
- Provision of the Burley Fountain on the Village Green extension
- Issue of a free of charge village Handbook every three years with updated village map, factual information about village services and various articles of interest
- Provision of this community website to full current accessibility standards, and with regular updates, the Village Diary and article of interest
- Memorial to Canadian Servicemen who lost their lives in a traffic accident near the Village Green during World War II
- Village "clean ups": litter removal etc.
- Annual village Duck Race
- Effective representation at planning enquiries (e.g. Burley House Field) and in the Bradford Council Unitary Development Plan preparation process, achieving much for retention of village character
- Preparation of the Village Design Statement through extensive public consultation, and getting this adopted as formal planning guidance
- Establishment of the Community Trust as a Registered Charity
- Taking ownership of the Scalebor Sports Pavilion and related carpark to enable young football and cricket players to use the leased playing field
- Taking ownership of the Mill Pond to maintain it as a village amenity safe from development
- Lobbying for, and achievement of, establishment of an elected Parish Council for the village – to enable the ability to achieve more for the village to be formalised and passed to the next generation
