The Recreation Ground

The “Rec”

Entered by a snicket opposite the Methodist Church on Main Street were the fields which were given by the mill owners in 1897, as a Recreation Ground, to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

The “Rec” stretched down towards the banks of the river Wharfe, covering the fields numbered 153 and 154, on the village map.
