AREA COMMITTEE (SHIPLEY CONSTITUENCY)

Shipley

Area Co-ordinator Chris Flecknoe 01274 437146

Email chris.flecknoe@bradford.gov.uk

The Area Committee acts as a focus for community participation and consultation, with the support of the officers of the Area Co-ordinator's Office.

Burley in Wharfedale Open Forums are run in a very successful partnership with Burley Community Council. Three Forum meetings per year, together with a fourth similar meeting in the form of the AGM of Burley Community Council, are normally held at 7.30pm in Burley Oaks Primary School on dates advertised by the Burley Bulletin and on the Burley Website www.burley-in-wharfedale.org. These meetings provide an opportunity for all sections of the community to come together and meet with Council Members, Council officers, and representatives of other agencies. The meetings allow ideas to be shared, information to be given, questions and concerns to be raised, and projects to be planned so that issues in Burley can be addressed for the good of, and drawing on the skills and knowledge of, all sections of the community. Everyone is warmly welcome to attend.

The Area Committee receives regular reports from the officers about all issues raised at Open Forums and seeks to ensure that appropriate responses are made. The Area Committee also currently has responsibility for the allocation of some budgets for environmental improvements, the Community Chest (small grants for voluntary organisations), highways, and traffic schemes. Bradford Council is considering devolving more budgets to the Area Panels.

To find out the date of the next Open Forum in Burley, look at the diary on this website, or ask the Area Co-ordinator's Office

WHARFE VALLEY COMMUNITY PROJECT

Ilkley and district

secretary Mrs N Thornton c/o Abbeyfield 886000

This project aims to promote the welfare of the older housebound person enabling them to take part in and enjoy a wide range of art, craft and other skills and interests. It helps to alleviate loneliness and isolation experienced by many older people living alone. Volunteers visit people in their home or work with them at our centre in small groups.
